LEAF has developed, with the help and support of NYS OASAS* and NYCPG*, a comprehensive program to achieve these ends. This program includes an exposure rich media campaign, a newly developed web site and social networking site, a puppet presentation built on the latest understanding of the prevention science, a companion curriculum to be used in grades 3 – 7, a fully illustrated, original children’s book with worksheets for parent/child interaction, appearances at local health fairs, on-going professional evaluation of outcomes, and a large range of promotional items designed to point young people (and their parents) toward the information-packed web site.
Partnering with local businesses and organizations, LEAF hopes to achieve long-term sustainability for this extremely important work.
The current research clearly shows that a healthy message, delivered over time with an appropriate level of exposure WILL make a different in the target behaviors and attitudes.
We have great hope for the future of our young people.
In an area that tends to be more economically depressed than most, the values of saving, living debt-free, and avoiding impulsive spending on games of chance are values that can change the future of those who embrace them.
